Jim Salzman is the Donald Bren Distinguished Professor of
Environmental Law with joint appointments at UCLA Law
School and the UC, Santa Barbara, School of Environment.
In more than eight books and ninety articles and book
chapters, his broad-ranging scholarship has addressed
topics spanning drinking water, trade and environment,
and environmental markets. A dedicated classroom
teacher, Salzman was twice selected as Professor
of the Year by students at Duke, where he held chairs in the
Law School and the Nicholas School of the Environment.
His most recent book, Drinking Water: A History, is in
its second edition and has been featured in Scientific
American, the Washington Post, the New York Times, and
NPR’s Weekend Edition.
Professor and environmental policy expert James Salzman will show how drinking water highlights the most pressing issues of our time -- from globalization and social justice to climate change and cities running out of water. Ensuring safe drinking water has always been one of society’s most difficult and critical challenges, whether in Biblical times and ancient Rome or today in Flint, Michigan, and Cape Town, South Africa.
