About this Event
280 Boyer Ave., Walla Walla, WA
Many residents in southeastern Washington know the history of the killing of Marcus and Narcissa Whitman, missionaries to the Walla Walla region in the mid-1800s. But the meanings of these events vary over time and from person to person.
This event will explore how the Whitmans’ story and its aftermath affect individuals today.
It will start with a screening of the Whitman Mission’s educational presentation used in the past and compare it to the presentation used today.
Following the screenings, there will be a panel discussion with project scholars from both tribal and non-tribal perspectives as well as a public conversation about how regional residents and students understand the Whitman legacy and how its continuing impacts both unite and divide those in the Walla Walla Valley.
