The Whitman-AAUP is happy to announce the third annual "Law and the Academy" seminar series. We welcome student and facutly participation. Attendance and participation can count towards the "campus events" requirement for the new Law, Culture, and the Humanities minor.

We will meet for two 1-hour sessions to discuss how the law structures relationships, produces norms, and governs aspects of campus life.  The theme this year is "Sanction/Extortion." Session 1 meets on Feb. 9th; session 2 meets on Feb. 23

We will explore how the ongoing government attacks on higher education in the US involve both traditional legal sanction and an emerging regime of extortion. If you would like to join the seminar, please email Prof. Jack Jackson (jacksoje@whitman.edu) and Prof. Tim Kaufman-Osborn (kaufmatv@whitman.edu) . We will email you a copy of the readings.

No background in the study of law is expected or required. We will meet in the Baker Center at 4pm.
