‘How do we know a place?’ It could be through its formal qualities – its geography, its architecture, and the services it offers. Or possibly it is through the stories other people tell us about it – its history, media and fictional presence. Or maybe it is more subjective, based on our own experiences, interactions and memories.
Hannah Bartman’s site installations use all three of these views of place to intervene in and reimagine spaces which have been purposefully or unpurposefully forgotten and misused.
