#WASAEveryone Welcome! All ages and experiences! The Whitman African Student Association invites you to join Gansango Music & Dance for a community dance class. Gansango is directed by Etienne Cakpo, originally from Benin and now a choreographer and teacher based in Seattle, Washington. Cakpo’s community class will fuse music and movement from across the African continent, drawing heavily from the dance and music traditions of Benin, Ghana and Togo, among other countries and will feature traditional dance from Benin. Live drums and percussion accompany this opportunity for all ages and abilities to learn about and experience these exciting forms. Slip off your shoes, slip on workout clothing (or your African wrapper), and let’s dance!
This workshop is hosted by the Whitman African Student Association and the Department of Theater and Dance, supported by the Ashton J. and Virginia Graham O'Donnell Endowment in Global Studies.
