The Center for Global Studies will present an O’Donnell Visiting Educator Lecture by Jamie Workman on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. in Olin Auditorium.
Climate change is an accelerant, a threat multiplier. Yet Western forest landscapes would burn hotter, faster and more destructively even without global heating. The science of tree ring and pollen analysis (dendrochronology & palynology), combined with ethnographic research, reveal how older, more powerful forces have shaped our increasingly lethal forest predicament—and offer a secure escape route, if we adopt the tactics and logic of indigenous fire deployment.
