Community Dance Class: Umfundalai Technique with Angie Pittman, Dance Studio

Umfundalai (MA FOON DAH LAH) is a contemporary African dance technique that comprises its movement vocabulary from dance traditions throughout the Diaspora with movements from Black cultures in the United States, Caribbean, and South America.  Kariamu Welsh, Umfundalai’s progenitor, has designed a stylized movement practice that seeks to articulate an essence saying "African dance is where African people reside."  In this class, students will work on rhythm, body alignment, and core movement as well as vocabulary of the Umfundalai technique to generate collective and self-expression.
