Whitman College

Michael Ekstrand Lecture

Whitman welcomes Professor Michael Ekstrand to campus for a public lecture titled 'Making Information Systems Good for People'.

Every day, we interact with information systems enhanced by artificial intelligence: Google search, Amazon and Netflix recommendations, news from Apple and Buzzfeed. This talk considers principles of data-driven artificial intelligence systems, and how to ensure they are good for people: providing value, minimizing harm, and treating people fairly.

This event is sponsored by the Mathematics and Computer Science Department.
