Is Science Enough? Mathematics, God and Burning Man

A TALK BY Satyan Devadoss

Professor Satyan Devadoss is the Chair of Applied Mathematics
at the University of SanDiego, and also a person of faith. Dr. Devadoss will challenge the idea that science is the only satisfactory language for truth and reality. He’ll describe the reconciliation of his life’s work in math and science with that of his Christian identity.

I really enjoyed Dr. Devadoss' humor and liked how he worked his way from comparing STEM to the humanities, to explaining how faith helps us answer (or at least face) the hard questions that the humanities grapple with (which are too complex for the sciences to address). His presentation was not very long, and he didn't go as deep as I had expected, but the question and answer time allowed the audience to dig in a little more with him.
